Our philosophy

Why these panels

DECODE to RECODE® is led by Elaine Chin, MD, MBA, a physician with thirty years in preventive and precision medicine, twenty of them in consumer genetics.

For a long time, the promise was that we would read the entire genome and know what to do with it. Yes, we can read it, but interpreting it is the part that has not fully arrived.

Protein-coding sequence is one to two percent of the genome. About eight percent shows evidence of function. Fewer than a hundred genes meet the formal standard for clinical action, a few thousand are tied to inherited disease, and beyond those sit thousands of common markers that shift how you respond rather than decide what happens to you.

That last group is where most everyday health decisions live. How you handle carbohydrate. Whether a supplement is doing anything for you. How you are likely to start a medication. It is also the group almost nobody gives you access to, because it does not fit the two things most consumer genetics sells, which are ancestry and disease risk.

Our panels exist to give you that access.

Each one is physician-selected against a single question.

Does this change what a clinician would actually do.

A genetics report on its own still means very little. Without bloodwork, history, and someone qualified to weigh all three together, it is a document rather than a decision.

This is the gap DECODE to RECODE exists to fill.
